Saint Joseph
Formerly known as “Vin de Mauves,” this wine was highly prized by the kings of France in the 14th century and was renamed “Saint-Joseph” in the 18th century by the Jesuits of Tournon. The vineyard soils, composed of light granite, schist, and gneiss, are primarily planted with Syrah grapes for the reds, and Marsanne and Roussanne for the whites. Saint-Joseph red wines are elegant and refined yet powerful, characterised by aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry, with notes of liquorice and leather developing after a few years of cellaring. The Saint-Joseph white wines exhibit floral aromas of acacia and honey, along with summer fruits like apricot and peach.
