Gigondas

The Gigondas AOC spans 1,230 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Gigondas, situated at the foot of the renowned Dentelles de Montmirail. The terroir is divided into two main zones: the slopes of the massif, characterized by sandy soils over limestone and marl subsoils, and the high terrace of the Ouvèze River (a tributary of the Rhône), which features stony soils. While the climate in the high terrace is distinctly Mediterranean, the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail experience a cooler climate due to their altitude.

The wines of AOC Gigondas are primarily made from Grenache, with Syrah and Mourvèdre as complementary varieties. They are recognized for their powerful, full-bodied character, high tannins, and elevated alcohol content, echoing the proximity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. These wines exhibit a bouquet of spices and black olives, along with a deep color. They are excellent for aging. The Perrin family produces "La Gille" and the Sélection Parcellaire "L'argnée," both reflecting the exceptional qualities of this region.
